A Trip to Computex 2015

Last week, Account Manager Brendan O’Reilly attended Computex 2015 - the largest ICT show in Asia and the second largest in the world. 

The show provided the perfect opportunity to link up with our suppliers and partners in Taiwan. 

The show brought together 130,000 visitors and over 1700 exhibitors across areas including components, embedded systems, touch displays and many more.

Brendan commented: “It was interesting to see new technology, identify possible new suppliers and see what our already established partners are showcasing for the exhibition”.

Total display solutions and technical support for Avalue's VMS-BYT embedded system

Display Solutions offers full technical support to system integrators embedding the new VMS-BYT modular, in-vehicle, telematics system from Avalue Technology. The feature-rich VMS-BYT is a rugged, enclosed system suitable for automotive and commercial vehicle applications, including fleet telematics, passenger infotainment, and in-vehicle surveillance.

Avalue’s energy-efficient design of the VMS-BYT is powered by an Intel Atom SoC E3845 quad-core processor and supports 204-pin DDR3L SO-DIMM system memory with up to 8GB DDR3L 1333MHz SDRAM capacity. Accommodating a wide DC power range (9~36V), the VMS-BYT offers reliable, fanless operation for industrial temperatures between -40 and +75 degC.

“The VMS-BYT supports LVDS output; our speciality is matching boards and systems to LVDS panels,” says Brendan O’Reilly, Account Manager at Display Solutions. “A system integrator looking for a particular in-vehicle display solution, whether it is touch screen or not, can utilise our services to achieve a total display system for their desired application.”

Onboard features of the VMS-BYT include a rich set of I/Os, including 1x VGA, 1x LVDS, 1x DC-out (12V/4A), 1x 8-bit GPIO, 1x Cfast, 1x 2.5-inch drive bay, 2x Line-out and Mic-in,  2x LAN, 3x USB, 2x COM and 5x antenna mountings. The VMS-BYT also offers dual Gigabit Ethernet with two Intel I211ATs and supports dual displays with resolutions of 2560x1080 pixels at 60Hz (VGA) and 1600x1200 pixels at 60Hz (LVDS). An audio interface is also provided with a Realtek ALC892, supporting 5.1 channels.

The VMS-BYT is compatible with Windows 7 and 8 as well as Linux, carries the CE mark according to FCC Class B. An optional CAN module is available for SAEJ1939 or J1708 support.

DisplayTouch launch new micro site

It’s been a busy month at Display Solutions HQ with plenty of new product releases and behind the scenes work going on, but we’re now pleased to unveil the new and improved DisplayTouch website to you! 

The new look micro site has been designed specifically to provide ease of access to our full DisplayTouch range with data sheets available to download free of charge. We have been expanding our DisplayTouch range of touch monitors over the past 12 months, and the portfolio now covers PCAP, SAW, IR and Resistive touch screens in sizes from 10.4" - 42". 42-inch multi-touch display with full HD resolution from Display Solutions

Display Solutions extends its DisplayTouch line with the introduction of a 42-inch multi-touch display. Allowing up to 10 touch points at one time, these displays integrate innovative Planar Scatter Detection (PSD) technology that works with gloved hands. Ideal for indoor and outdoor applications, within the correct enclosure, the DT-S42FD is suitable for gaming, information, retail and educational applications requiring up to 10 point touch.

The DT-S42FD features 920 x 1080 full HD resolution, with a bezel free front. The PSD technology uses advanced opto-mechanics and signal processing to offer an optical in-glass technology requiring no ITO - unlike other touchscreen technologies, such as P-CAP, lines are not visible to the user on the front of the screen providing a perceivably clearer image. In addition, this touch technology is insensitive to EMI/RFI. 

“Through using PSD technology, the DT-S42FD offers better picture quality than other similar multi-touch displays currently available on the market,” begins Brendan O’Reilly, account manager at Display Solutions. “This innovative technology is an exciting product to bring to our DisplayTouch range, and with interest already received from system integrators, we are looking forward to seeing the DT-S42FD used across a wide variety of industries.”

Compatible with Windows 8, the DDC output connection enables system integrators to plug in a board, and a complementary OCS device allows for the screen to be used as a PC.  RoHS compliant, the screen also carries CE, FCC-A, UL and CUL safety approvals.
