Merry Christmas from Display Solutions!

I don't know about you, but for all of us at DSL, we're finding it hard to believe that we're over half way through December already, and Christmas is only a week away! But that doesn't mean we're unprepared - the team here at HQ have been busy this month ensuring your products are delivered before we close our doors for the Christmas period. 

As this is the last blog post of the year, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Thank you to everyone who visited us at EDS 2014, and of course, to our valued customers for continuing to use us as your preferred distributor! We are looking forward to working with you all in the New Year.

It’s been a tremendous year for Display Solutions, with plenty happening at HQ and a number of innovative new products being launched, so here’s a quick overview of the past 12 months for us...

  • We exhibited at a new UK trade show EDS in Coventry in October, and saw great results! 
  • We saw huge success with the Shuttle DS61 – Have you read about it yet? 
  • We introduced a new vandal-resistant range from our in house brand, DisplayTouch – Did you see our product being put to the ultimate test?
  • We created an online Social Media presence - Have you connected with us yet?

  • We employed new staff - Diane (Accounts Executive), Zech (Internal Technical Sales Support & Brendan's right hand man) and I (Marketing Exec ) are all new to the Display Solutions team this year. 

And that’s not it! After having such a successful 2014 the team are looking forward to kicking of 2015 with a bang with some exciting new products from our partners Avalue, Shuttle and Litemax. But that’s not all that we've got in store for you next year; with the recent release of our vandal resistant touch monitor from DisplayTouch, we are looking forward to spreading the word about our innovative and cost effective in house brand.

Company Profile: Innodisplay


Innodisplay were established in 1993 as a designer and manufactuer of standard and customised A/D board kits and open frame TFT LCD monitors. Innodisplay are based in Asia with their new Digital Industrial complex being located in Suwon, South Korea. The company works alongside well renowned companies such as Samsung, AUO and LG to provide open frame and TFT LCD solutions for digital signage applications. With a strong R&D department, the company has developed their portfolio over the past 21 years, and can now offer touch integration on their products. Innodisplay can also offer customised designs alongside their standard models, and all products meet RoHS compliance regulations.

Product In Focus: The Unicorn ENDAT 3227A

The Unicorn ENDAT 3227A is a small form factor embedded type motherboard, designed for use in Gaming, POS and Kiosk applications.

The ENDAT 3227A is a completely fan-less CPU motherboard, and can operate in temperatures between 0c and 60c. The motherboard measures in at a slim 170mm x 170mm and offers a number of benefits, including:

Account Manager Brendan O'Reilly visits Electronica 2014

Electronica 2014 is Europe’s largest electronics exhibition, and celebrating its 50th anniversary, it was a date secured in our diaries. With our sister company Components Bureau exhibiting at the show for the first time and a number of our suppliers having stands, Account Manager Brendan O’Reilly flew out to be a part of the show.

Brendan has been spending the past couple of days in Hall A3, where our suppliers Litemax and Innodisplay were exhibiting alongside some key players in the embedded and digital signage industries. The Account Manager explains “It is important to visit shows where our suppliers are exhibiting to keep up to date with the latest technologies which are being demonstrated. Trade shows are a fantastic opportunity for us to spot trends and network to find out more about what visitors are looking for. Electronica has a number of big names exhibiting alongside smaller companies, so it is always interesting to compare and speak to members on different levels and in different markets."

Our partner Litemax had an impressive variety of their sunlight readable and stretched displays on show. The Litemax display range can be used for indoor and outdoor applications, with previous installs including ticketing machines, information displays and kiosks.

The XS36V4 is a new fanless barebone Slim PC from Shuttle designed to provide 24/7 operation. The lightweight Slim PC is built into a 1.5ltr chassis, and offers a number of benefits including:

DisplayTouch introduce new vandal proof range of touch screen displays

Here at Display Solutions, we are pleased to introduce the DTSF-15MOFP, a vandal-proof, open frame touch display. This innovative touchscreen product is the latest to be added to our own brand DisplayTouch range. Featuring superior impact resistance, the DTSF-15MOFP is suitable for a wide range of applications, including kiosk, ATM, gaming and ticketing. When sealed in an appropriate customer enclosure, it is equally well-suited for use in outdoor environments.

The DTSF-15MOFP offers projected capacitive touchscreen features, with an optically bonded protective layer of glass secured over the PCAP touch sensor to enhance the performance of the display in outdoor environments. With a total 7.3mm glass stack-up thickness, this ensures high resistance and protection from impacts whilst meeting the UL-60950 requirement. In addition, the edge-to-edge flush design enables easy cleaning, for a bacteria/dust free screen.

“This new DisplayTouch product is an ideal touchscreen solution for harsh outdoor environments where heavy use is likely,” begins Brendan O’Reilly, product manager at Display Solutions. “The DTSF-15MOFP’s PCT features combined with a highly resistant protective glass guarantees users a reliable, accurate and high-speed touchscreen experience.”

Offering both multi-touch and gesture input, these screens are well-suited for a variety of high-performance touch applications. Available as a compact and integrated solution, the touch screen is fitted directly to the unit and no additional assembly is required. The display is HID compliant and therefore easily integrated with a thin client solution or computer.

The DTSF-15MOFP is currently available in 15”, with 17” and 19” versions to follow in 2015, all of which are Windows 7 compatible. RoHS compliant, the screen also carries CE, UL, CUL, and FCC-B safety approvals.

Electronics Design Show 2014: A Recap

We had a great time at the Electronics Design Show in Coventry’s Ricoh Arena this week, with the two day show bringing in floods of engineers, buyers, press and students towards our stand. We were pleased with the turnout to Stand H42 where we were showing off our brand new vandal proof display from our very own DisplayTouch range, alongside an impressive new 42 inch DisplayTouch screen that boasts up to 40 touch points. Other products on show included our high performance embedded systems from Shuttle and our stretched sunlight readable displays from Litemax.

Brendan kept the crowds entertained with the steel ball drop test conducted on our new rugged vandal proof screen from our own brand of touchscreen displays, DisplayTouch. Didn't get a chance to see it for yourself? Check it out  here

The Final Countdown to The Electronics Design Show

At last, we’re in the single figure countdown to the Electronics Design Show, which is being held on the 22nd and 23rd October at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The team are busy working behind the scenes to ensure our product range is ready to present to you next week on Stand H42. It's our first time exhibiting at the show, so we are looking forward to demonstrating our extensive product range in a new environment. 

Account Manager Brendan O’Reilly has been busy in the demo room this week prepping the latest product to be released from our DisplayTouch range before it is put to the test on our Stand (H42) next week. That's right, we're going to be conducting a drop test on our stand which will demonstrate just how durable the vandal proof displays are. Make sure you pay us a visit to stand H42 to be the first to view our brand new range of vandal proof displays and see them being put to the ultimate test! 

That’s not the only thing you can catch on Stand H42; we are going to be showing off some of our products from our partners Litemax, who specialise in sunlight readable solutions. We will be running the displays off some Shuttle barebone and Slim PC units, which have recently been in the spotlight after being highly commended when installed into a complex outdoor industrial environment.

Introducing the 28" Stretched Display from Litemax

Our partner Litemax are known for their diverse range of sunlight readable displays, and we are pleased to announce the introduction of the SSF2845, a stretched display from their Spanpixel range. This blog gives you an insight into the latest product to be brought in from our Taiwanese partner. 

The innovative 28" display offers high brightness capabilities, resulting in maximum visibility in even the brightest conditions. Suitable for a large range of outdoor environments, the SSF2845 is designed for use across digital signage, public transportation, exhibition hall, retail, vending and industrial applications.

The SSF2845 from Litemax Electronics is an LED backlit LCD panel with high brightness levels of 1000 cd/m2 and a wide aspect ratio of 16:3. Featuring a (DVI and VGA) display controller and LED driver, the monitor can display high-quality digital video and computer graphic images in an energy efficient manner through its low power consumption design of just 29.8W.

“Real world applications for this screen include information display systems at bus stops and railway stations,” comments Brendan O’Reilly, Product Manager at Display Solutions. “The combination of sunlight readability and excellent size makes the SSF2845 ideal for many outdoor and rugged environments.”

The ultra-wide 28” design offers a wide viewing angle both vertically and horizontally. It has a generous resolution of 1920 x 357 pixels and can display vivid colour videos in the brightest of light. In addition to its sunlight readable capabilities, the monitor also features high shock and vibration resistance to ensure reliable operation in severe surroundings. The SSF2845 reliability is estimated with a half-brightness lifetime of 70khrs.

“Our partnership with Litemax Electronics opens up a wide portfolio of innovative products for our customers in terms of high brightness, sunlight readable displays. The SSF2845 is already garnering particular interest with system integrators looking for a reliable and advanced display solution,” adds O’Reilly.

Company Profile: Shuttle

Established in 1983, Shuttle is an industry leading designer and manufacturer of a variety of SFF (Small Form Factor) Computers and accessories. The company, who are based in Taiwan has gone on to become a well renowned global name after being the first to develop a commercially successful SFF Computer in 2001. Company Profile: Litemax

Here at Display Solutions, Litemax are on of our main suppliers and strongest partners. So we thought it was about time we gave you a little more information on the company…

Litemax are a Taiwanese manufacturer of LCD displays, ranging in sizes from 7’’ – 60’’. Located in Tapei, the company has been running since 2000 and has experienced fast growth over the past 14 years. With over 100 employees and a capital of $12M USD, Litemax has become an established name in the LCD market, recently winning the Taiwan Excellence Award 2014 for their 38” ultra-wide sunlight readable LCD screen. Litemax sunlight readable displays are suitable for a range of applications, especially exposed outdoor environments. We have had great success with installs into bus stops, information points and kiosks, where they are put to the test with extreme weather conditions and 24/7 operation. 

The Durapixel range benefits from vast temperature ranges from -30c to 80c, can withstand high shock and vibration levels and up to 2000 nit LED backlighting,  making it a suitable option for transportation, gaming and kiosk applications. The Durapixel range products are available in sizes from 6.5'' - 60'' and offer a life span of up to 70000 hours. 

The Spanpixel range has been designed to provide stretched sunlight readable screens for a variety of outdoor environments. The product range benefits from low power consumption, high shock and vibration resistance, supported by a long life span of up to 70000 hours. The Spanpixel range also has an operating temperature of between 0c and 50c, with low EMI noise.

Electronics Design Show Preview

We announced earlier in the year that we were to exhibit at the Electronics Design Show in October, at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, and we’re now in the 6 week countdown to the show! Here’s an insight into what you can expect to see on Stand H42 on the 22nd and 23rd October…

We are excited to announce that we will be unveiling our newest touchscreen products from our DisplayTouch range, which have been designed to resist strong impacts in exposed environments. 

The DTSF-17MOFP is the latest product to be added to Display Solutions’ own DisplayTouch range. Account Manager Brendan O'Reilly visits the Far East

At the end of August, our Account Manager Brendan O’Reilly took a trip out to the Far East to visit some of our partners and discuss some exciting new product releases coming up in Autumn. Accompanied by one of our customers, Peter Cieslak from RSL, Brendan flew out for a jam-packed 6 day visit to China and Taiwan.

Trips to the Far East have become part of a routine for Brendan and Cheng here at Display Solutions, with all of our suppliers located in the China and Taiwan regions. This trip involved meetings with partners such as ASRock, Litemax, Shuttle and Unicorn as well as our manufacturing plants for our DisplayTouch range. Brendan O’Reilly comments "By visiting our partners in China and Taiwan, we can see the latest products in the flesh and discuss large projects at ease with all the key members in one room. Peter accompanied me on this trip to discuss a potential project, which enabled him to gain peace of mind from seeing the product and manufacturers face to face opposed to over the phone or internet. " One of the key projects discussed on the business trip was our newest, vandal proof touch screen product from the DisplayTouch range, due to be arriving with us in October. We will have more information and a demo of the product on display at the Electronics Design Show in October, so make sure you pay us a visit on Stand H42.

The ASRock SBC 210

You may have heard the name ASRock being mentioned a few times now on our website, social media sites and of course, this very blog. However, what you may not know is how their new SBC 210 motherboard is a cut above the rest, offering you the perfect balance of value and performance...

Display Solutions can now offer you the new 3.5” SBC industrial board from ASRock, the SBC-210. Incorporating the latest Intel Atom processor, the SBC-210 delivers high-end performance for a wide range of professional equipment, as well as digital signage, POS systems, kiosks, panel PCs and applications in the automation market.

The SBC-210 integrates the latest Intel Atom Baytrail processor, meeting the most recent operating systems requirements. The board is rich in I/O features, including 6 USB ports and 4 COM ports within a small compact footprint of 148 x 102mm. Supporting a single channel DDR3L 1333MHz, the system can hold up to 8GB in memory.

Company Profile: Unicorn

Unicorn are one of the most recent partnerships to form under the Display Solutions umbrella. The company originated in Taiwan in 1986 and has since gone on to become a major player in the industrial PC industry.
